Dad, Are You Still There?

It was a day for celebration,
of a milestone in my life,
yet I was overcome with guilt,
remorse cut like a knife.

I could not feel his presence, 
one my eyes could not see,
the question heavy on my heart,
are you still watching over me?

At Dad's final resting place,
knelt in pleading prayer,
I asked, God, please let me feel him,
He answered, "he's always been there". 

God said, "Dad still watches over you"
as he has since you were born,
My child, I gave him to you,
to protect you through the storm."



Familiar from when I was young,
the music in my heart,
I knew that Dad was telling me,
we were never far apart.

Knelt before his grave that day,
my face soaked with tears,
asking for God to remove,
the anger and the fears. 

Feeling God's love warm my heart,
as it never had before,
I knew I needed Him,
and would for evermore.

It was a cold November day,
I was freezing as I prayed,
the angels warmed me with a hug,
and in those arms I've stayed.
